Conley Davies, fondly known as “Uncle Conley” by campers and staff who knew him, was the camp executive director for most of the 1960s. He played a significant role in the updating of the Rag program and hosted a world YMCA camp event as well during that time. The campfire circle is formally dedicated to Conley Davies and serves as the location for evening campfires, outdoor evening twighlight games, and evacuation meeting point in case of a campwide emergency.
The current campfire circle contains benches that can seat 180 people, two campfire rings, a water spigot, an elevated 13.5 feet x 19.5 feet rectangular concrete stage with electrical power, outdoor lights, and a siren which is used to alert campers and staff to come to the campfire circle when there is an emergency.
The original campfire circle was at the same location as the one today, but it was very different. There was one instead of two campfire rings and the stage was an elevated wooden platform much higher than the current concrete platform. It was during the building of the current camper group cabins in the early 1950’s that the old campfire circle was totally remodeled into the campfire circle of today.
